Draeger Safety breathes new life into product testing

Description

To enable its customers to better understand its products, a world leader in medical and safety technologies, Draeger Safety UK has truly thought outside the box, hosting a unique and innovative event which has gone down a storm

Draeger Safety’s life-saving breathing equipment helps to protect people’s lives in global sectors ranging from aviation to pharmaceuticals; and hazardous environments from oil rigs to car factories.

Draeger’s team of professionals decided that the many vendors responsible for selling its products to the international market should be better familiarised with exactly how they work in real world applications.

Though aeroplane hangars, chemical storage tanks and drugs labs weren’t practical, the R&D team at Draeger decided to create some innovative methods of trailing its equipment at the company’s Blyth site, Northumberland. Play dough and flour were employed to simulate chemical environments, tunnels in cages replicated jet wings and even a sand castle competition was held to test cooling systems.

Design Manager at Draeger Safety UK, Stuart Blenkiron commented: terrific

“This event was the culmination of research into further developing a range of airline products that seen our German colleagues talking to customers about their needs, in order to understand as much as possible about the countries and industries they will be selling to.

“The testing at Blyth gave us an opportunity to really investigate how our products work in practice, as an entire system rather than just as individual products. It also helped us to uncover any potential pitfalls and to identify strengths and weaknesses that could be significant in terms of future developments.”

Blenkiron added:

“The fun elements, a sort of Crystal Maze of tasks, like mixing play dough colours in the pretend drugs lab, crawling through tunnels to complete children’s puzzles and building sand castles in chemical suits, managed to keep everyone engaged too, not to mention bringing out a few competitive streaks!”

The Germany-based customer and market researcher, Rudiger Weich attended the event and stated:

“Getting everyone together to trial the complete system and portfolio provided us with the chance to hear useful anecdotal evidence about how it works in different countries and industry sectors.

“It’s important to visit customers and discuss their requirements, but having the opportunity to trail Draeger’s complete system with experts from across the world, provided important feedback for our research; as well as a fun environment for improving product knowledge.”
